The Glass Slipper Ball

The Princess going to the Glass Slipper Ball

Custom design a show is what we do. It’s Aylee’s 3rd birthday and her favourite show is Little Einstein. How do we fit that into a show? I have never seen Little Einstein. I don’t even know what they look like. What the heck are Little Einsteins? I had to do some research. I went on the Little Einstein website and lo and behold… the featured story was “Little Einstein and the Glass Slipper Ball” How perfect was that? Princess, ball, glass slippers…. It’s right up our alley! The mom offered Aylee’s stuffed Little Einstein toys for the show. We attached them to sticks with elastics and used them as stick puppets in the show. Oh my goodness was she thrilled when we did “The Glass Slipper Ball” complete with interactive segments just like on the website. We had princess dresses that fit the stuffed June character. And we had a matching one for Aylee…. and glass slippers that fit Aylee. Aylee, dressed as a beautiful princess led us in a princess dance. It was a great show.

The Little Einstein segment went over so well that we have adapted it with our own puppets. (I had to give back the stuffed Little Einstein toys to Aylee) We have a Cinderella puppet and she goes into her carriage… instead of June going into Rocket. The kids love the interactive parts. And all the girls want to meet Cinderella. They love her pink shimmery dress. It’s a hit Aylee. Thanks!

The Dress That Started It All Part 3

Part 3

The dresses inspired me to do princess tea parties. (see photos of dresses in part 1 and 2) I would need quite a few of these dresses. I tired to find the supplier and spent days searching on Google, typing in the name on the label. I could not find it. Winners often carried discontinued items, so these princess dresses may be all there was. The company may have closed their business. I went back to Winners. This time I bought another princess dress from another label. The Medieval Princess Dress. Here is Rosie modeling it.

I went home and Googled it and found the company "Little Adventures". After much research, I discovered that not all princess dresses were equal. Some licensed princess dresses may look beautiful but the stiff fabric and itchy trim made the dress very uncomfortable to wear. Some fell apart after a wash Some you couldn't even wash.
After examining many princess dresses, I soon realized what an exceptional product "Little Adventures" made. Comfortable, washable, affordable and adorable. No scratchy fabrics or itchy trims. No zippers, buttons, snaps, ties, of Velcro to fiddle with. Easy to put on and easy to take off. The stretchy bodice accommodates many body types. These dresses are super comfortable and there's room to move. I decided "This is the line I am going to carry in my store".

The Dress That Started It All Part 2

How it all started

Part 2

My best friend, Nadine and I have been saying that one day we would visit her home town, Halifax. Life can be so consuming. One year passed... then another... then another. Fifteen years passed and we still hadn't made the trip. Last year I closed my business for the summer and finally this was our window of opportunity to make the trip. I was also inspired by the movie "Yes Man" and was saying yes to everything. So... YES to Halifax. Let's go girlfriend! Here's is a photo of us on the airplane:

I packed lightly. The plan was that I would buy clothes in Halifax. So we arrived in Halifax and headed out shopping. Nadine suggested I try Winners (a retail store selling designer brand name clothes at a discount). I told her "I never find anything there". I didn't want to go... but...I'm the YES man remember? So I went.

Up and down the aisles...just as I did many times before...never finding anything I like. Nadine went into the change room and I went along to be her fashion advisor (ha ha). After her fashion show, I told her I would wait for her in the store. The children's section was right outside of the change rooms. I went into that section. And that is when I saw "The Dress" (see photo in previous blog "How it all started part 1"). The photo doesn't do it justice. When I saw it, I nearly hyperventilated. This was the dress of my childhood dreams.

I talked myself into buying it for my grand daughter for Christmas. I ended up buying a blue one and an orange one... and another red one... and another and another. For every little girl in my life, I bought one. Here are photos of the other dresses:

These dresses were sold as Halloween costumes. But to me these dresses would spark a little girl's imagination into a storybook adventure anytime of the year, not just on Halloween. And thus my adventure began on that day, Friday August 28th 2009.

How it all started

Part 1

We are so excited about Rosie's Tea Party. It has been a year in the making. We invite you into a magical world full of fun and imagination. It's where every girl is a princess. Rosie will show you how much fun tea parties are and how you can have your own fabulous tea party. Rosie's Tea Party was inspired by a dress I saw in Halifax. When I saw it... I was breathless. I would have thrown the hugest tantrum for this dress if I had seen this when I was a little girl. I would have begged, pleaded, negotiated anything for this dress. I had to have it. Have a look.

This regal dress made of red velvet and gold brocade fabric with drop sleeves and gold trim is a princess's dream come true. This is straight out of a fairy tale. A dress that would take your imagination to a castle long long ago in a land far far away. Where princesses, fairies, dragons and brave knights live. A magical place full of adventure. We hope that Rosie's Tea Party...our videos and our dresses do the same for you.

We all like to feel like a Princess

What girl doesn’t like being treated like a princess. I know a woman who runs marathons. She just recently completed the Vineman Ironman in California which consisted of swimming 3.86km, cycling 180km and then running a full marathon of 42.2km, all back to back all in the same day! She was treated to a manicure and pedicure and commented on how this makes a girl feel so good.

I know another woman who does construction. I’m talking framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, flooring…the works. When she showers off all the plaster dust …puts on a dress and some make-up… she loves the double takes she gets from her favourite man.

Two women who aren’t your typical princess type tells me that all girls enjoy being treated like a princess and feeling like a princess.

Every little girl who is transformed into a princess at our parties is just thrilled. The expressions on their little faces are priceless. It truly is a magical moment that I am pleased to be a part of.

Who's Your Favourite Princess?

This is the question I ask all the girls at the princess parties and tea parties I do. There definitely are favourites. The answers are tallied and the results for the 3 top princesses are: Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Belle. And right up there is Snow White. I sometimes get Ariel. And once I got Jasmine. I think the reason why Ariel and Jasmine get less votes is because they both don’t have a distinct princess gown. Ariel has a mermaid tail and Jasmine wears pants. I have seen grand gala princess parties where not one little girl came as Jasmine or Ariel.

At Disney World, the little girls come dressed up as their favourite princess. We did the whole Disney World vacation for 7 days last year. In those 7 days we saw plenty of little girls dressed up as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Belle and Snow White. We saw one little girl dressed up as Jasmine and she was beautiful in her turquoise costume with gold jeweled beaded trim. She really stood out amongst the other little princesses. People were commenting “Ahhhh…look!... A little girl as Jasmine…isn’t she so cute!” No other princess got this level of reaction, except one other little girl who was dressed up as Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Alice is not a princess. This little girl had long blond hair just like Alice, so she really looked the part. We thought she looked adorable! This little girl got similar reactions from other people. I think it takes confidence to dress up as a non traditional princess. And even more confidence to be your own princess.

Princess Tea Party Event

This past weekend, we did a Princess Tea Party Event at a local indoor playground. Parents pre-registered their daughter(s) for the event. There were 20 girls in all, ranging from 2 years old to 6 years old. Just the right number of girls for the double size party room. On hand for the princess transformation were the Fairy Godmother, Snow White and the Grand Duke. From youngest to oldest, the girls took turns choosing their princess dress. Recognizable Disney Princess dresses were the first to go. Then anything pink with flowers attached to it. Can you guess which dress was the first to fly off the rack? Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. It’s a Disney Princess and it’s pink. The mommies did not want to miss out on all the fun. But the Fairy Godmother had to scoot them out of the room. With so many people in the room it was getting crowded and hot! The Fairy Godmother had to promise them that they could have their own tea party another day but for now they’ll just have to watch all the fun from the windows.

With everyone in their princess dresses, it was time for tiaras. make-up and pixie dust. Next was a princess singing lesson with Snow White. Everyone sang so lovely….just like a real princess! Then it was time to learn how to befriend little animals. As you know princesses have a way with little animals. Mice will help sew dresses and bunnies will help clean so it’s important to know how to talk to them. Next a lesson on how to walk elegantly in your princess dress before the fashion show parade. Snow White led the way out to the main area. The parents pulled out their camera phones and snapped away.

Then it was back to the party room for a short etiquette lesson before we sit down for tea. On the menu, fruit, tea sandwiches, cookies and apple juice (our version of tea). Each table took their turn to get picture taken by Cinderella’s carriage. Each girl sat on a chair in front of Cinderella’s carriage and the Grand Duke let them try on Cinderella’s glass slipper. When the clock struck midnight it was time to change back to their regular selves. A magical time was had by all.

Rosie's Princess Party

The transformation of 10 little girls into princesses was magical at Rosie's birthday party. It is always the highlight of the princess parties. The girls express their delight in different ways. Some smile from ear to ear. Some are in quiet awe. Some love twirling in their dresses. Some can’t stop looking at themselves in the mirror. Some go into full character of the princess whose dress they are wearing. They all feel very special. I always ask all the girls who their favourite princess is. I get a lot of Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella…but at this party, one girl said Jasmine. I rarely hear this one. I ask the girl why Jasmine was her favourite. She said “…because she skates really good” “She skates?” I asked? I don’t remember Jasmine skating in the movie Aladdin. Another girl explained… “She skates in Disney Princess on Ice” Of course! I regret I did not have a Jasmine costume on hand. Jasmine does not have a princess gown… she has pants. I will definitely have a Jasmine costume for my next party.

There were lots of giggles when we brought out some of Snow White’s forest friends. Snow White says “A real princess loves animals and the animals love her” She showed the princesses in training how to give nuzzles to Bun Buns the rabbit. Next is Gus Gus the mouse. We pat him gently on the head. Then Snow White’s own puppy “Princess” came out to give everyone kisses.

We asked Rosie what was her favourite part of the party. She said “when the Grand Duke presented her with her tiara at the princess graduation ceremony” That was definitely an awesome moment

Every Girl Can Be A Princess

All have birthdays within 6 months of each other.

Sophie is 3 years old. She is bigger for her age. There’s lots of room in her dress for her to grow.
Isn’t she cute? Every girl can be a princess no matter what size or age she is.

Rosie's Tea Party, where every girl is a princess. We did a Princess Tea Party earlier this year. Each girl felt very special as they emerged one by one from the carriage wearing the princess dress of their choice. We had different size girls. Some had larger body types yet the dresses fit them just perfectly. This is the beauty of these dresses from Rosie’s Boutique. They have lots of room in them The bodice is made of soft stretchable velour. The bigger girls looked just as lovely as the smaller girls. Every girl gets to be a princess no matter what size she is.

The girls loved their dresses. All the dresses at Rosie's boutique are made of clothing quality fabrics. There are no buttons, snaps, velcro, zippers or ties to fuzz with. They are so soft. There are no itchy fabrics or scratchy trims. AND they are all machine washable.We have the best dresses! Cute, adorable and affordable.
