My Squeaky Doll
RUTH E NEWTON’S Rubber squeak doll. Made by the Sun Rubber company, Ohio in the 1960s. Designed by Ruth E. Newton based on her characters from her books.. These dolls were the most popular squeaky dolls at the time. This doll’s name is Charlotte. I had many hours of pretend play as a child with this doll.Playing with your children is one of life’s simple pleasures. A time to bond with your child. You have seen this: A child with a room full of toys and says “I’m bored”. They don’t want another toy. They want someone to play with. Toys aren’t worth much unless there is someone to play with. Everyone, in the deepest core of their soul wants to bond with another human being. When playing dinosaurs, instead of your son playing by himself, it is much more fun if his T-Rex was chasing your baby brontosaurus with sound effects and all. Of course it would be nice if he had a playmate his own age but sometimes that can’t be arranged and besides… you’re right there. You don’t need to spend the entire day playing with your child. If you can only spare a few minutes, it’s still good. I have this memory of my own mother. When I was three years old I had a small plastic doll, the kind that squeaked when you squeezed the tummy. I wrapped the doll up in a baby blanket as best I could but it was very bulky and the blanket kept coming undone. My mother stopped washing the dishes and took a moment to show me how to wrap the doll up properly in a neat little bundle easier for me to hold. I remembered this even to the day when I had my own babies and wrapped them up just as my mother showed me with my doll. The things we remember as a child. What will your children remember?
